The St Mawes Classic Car Festival not only attracts local cars but also many national classic car owners who travel down the M5 to enjoy the numerous beautiful Cornish attractions as well as admire and soak up the atmosphere of the county’s ever-changing and exceptional landscape whilst travelling around.
You are sure to see some wonderful examples of rare, expensive, and beautifully restored and maintained classic vehicles. The festival is organised by Nearwater Events. It is now in its sixth year and established on the St Mawes yearly events calendar. This year, the festival is held between Monday 2nd to Friday 6th May.
The Concours d’Elegance is the main occasion where all the festivals’ attendees and their cars, as well as many other locally invited classic vehicles, all carefully park on St Mawes Quay. Everyone is made welcome and invited, free of charge, to have a good close up look and gaze longingly at the cars, talk to their owners, listen to live music, admire the beautiful coastal surroundings, and cheer the cars along the exclusive St Mawes waterfront for their parade lap around the village. The noise of all the cars revving and beeping is an extraordinary sound that has to be experienced.
This year’s Concours is held on Thursday 5th May, from 3pm to around 6pm. Keep your diary free!
Monies raised during the afternoon are donated to Childrens’ Hospice South West (www.chsw.org.uk). This will be the fourth year H Tiddy Estate Agents have sponsored the event.
At 3pm, St Mawes Quay is opened for the cars to be parked. Judging by Bonhams commences around 4pm and between 4:30pm and 5:30pm there is live music by Jacka Jazz. At 5:45pm prize giving includes the presentation of the H Tiddy Cup for the best overall car, best local car, and best-dressed couple in “fancy dress”.
Previous winners of the Concours have included a 1953 Ferrari 550MM Carrera Panamerica, owned by Nick and Annette Mason, a Fraser Nash Le Mans replica, a 1954 Mercedes Gullwing and an Alvis 4.3 Tourer.
All are welcome to join us on the Quay on the day. Entry to look at the cars and listen to the music is free, although a donation to the charity boxes for Childrens Hospice will be gratefully received. Anyone interested in entering their classic car please contact Tim at Nearwater Events. (Space is limited so call now!)
